Are the Yankees out on Bryce Harper?

The Boston Red Sox won the World Series which means it’s time for the Yankees to spend money. It looks like that money wont be spent on Bryce Harper though.

The New York Yankees were eliminated by the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS this season, and that’s probably a tough pill to swallow for the organization. As we all know though with a Red Sox title comes a Yankees spending spree in free agency.

This years free agent class includes the likes of Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. Two big sluggers that are going to command a ton of money on their next contract. If any team would go after these guys it would be the Yankees right?

Well it looks like that might not be the case this winter. According to SNY’s Andy Martino the Yankees are not expected to pursue Bryce Harper in free agency. Shocking right?

In all reality this may not shock a ton of people because the Yankees just don’t have enough room for him. He fits the perfect model for how the Yankees constructed their teams when they dominated baseball. A left handed power bat in the middle of the lineup. The Yankees already have one former MVP on their roster so what’s one more?

Next: Brett Gardner decision will say a lot about Yankees free agency plans

Right now the Yankees outfield consists of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Hicks, Jacoby Ellsbury (should he ever get healthy), Brett Gardner (should they pick up his option) and Clint Frazier. Harper has played some right field before in his career, but the Yankees really do like Clint Frazier.

As you can see there’s not a whole lot of room out there for him, and he’s not moving positions anytime soon unless he magically figured out how to play first base a Gold Glove level. There’s nothing wrong with the Yankees not going after him, but his power with the short porch in left field would make a lot of people happy in the Bronx.
